Description:

Clinton Bill 1946 -

President Clinton and Hillary Clinton signed and inscribed lunch menu from their 2000 Lake Placid holiday.

Large and visually attractive custom designed menu handwritten on light card stock, with printed image of the White House at top, 11" x 8.5". Dated "Aug 18-21". Signed and inscribed by 42nd U.S. President Clinton (born 1946) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (born 1947) as: "Sam - Thank you for a lovely weekend - / Hillary Rodham Clinton / Bill Clinton". The handwritten reverse appears to list what each ordered for lunch. Near fine condition.

President Bill Clinton was vacationing in upstate New York for his 54th birthday. At the time, First Lady Hillary Clinton was campaigning for the Senate. Clinton had a tradition of spending his birthday on Martha's Vineyard, however this year he stayed in the Adirondacks. Making a late-night stop at a Ben & Jerry's in Lake Placid, the president was asked by a reporter what he wanted for his birthday. "I think you know what my birthday wish is: I want Hillary to win and I want Al Gore to win," said Clinton before he munched on a double-dipped cone of Cherry Garcia and Black Raspberry ice cream.

Although the location where the meal was held is not listed on the menu, the Clintons ate dinner at a Lake Placid restaurant. Apparently, it was also Tipper Gore's birthday and the two telephoned the Gores and the two couples sang "Happy Birthday" to each other over the phone. The Clintons' after-dinner stroll with daughter Chelsea was briefly marred by a young woman who lifted up her shirt and tried to flash the president. The woman was briefly detained by the Secret Service and then released. Earlier in the day, the first family went for a 2 1/2-hour hike with their dog, Buddy. "It was so beautiful," Mrs. Clinton told reporters. "We really had a good time, took Buddy with us. He was on a wild adventure, running all over the place."
