Titanic - Photographer and Titanic survivor Louis M. Ogden's Collection: he was aboard the "Carpathia"
Comprises:
(1) Postcard, 5" x 3.25" (trimmed at upper and left sides), captioned "S.S. Carpathia," and "The Carpathia was on her way to the Mediterranean with 200 passengers on board, when Capt. Rostrom [sic, Rostron] received the distress calls from the Titanic fifty-six miles away." Pictures the "Carpathia" and rescue boats
(2)Envelope, 9.5" x 4", mailed from New York to Louis M. Ogden Esq. c/o Messrs Brown Shipley & Co. / care of / 12 Banca Commerciale Italiana, Palermo, Sicily" with two 2¢ U.S. stamps affixed, postmarked New York, October 2, 1912. Address crossed out and forwarded to Brown Shipley London, British half penny stamp affixed, forwarded to "Sorrento / c/o H_tel Royal," postmarked London October 11, Napoli October 16, and Sorentino October 17, 1912.
(3) Memorial Exercises Program, 8 pages, 6.25" x 8.5". Mid-vertical fold. "Program / of the / Memorial Exercises/ in honor of the late / WILLIAM McKINLEY / President of the United States of America / held under the auspices of the /North American Residents in Buenos Aires / at / Prince George's Hall / September the nineteenth MCMI at two p.m.
(4) Program, "Miss Amy Baker's / Annual Recital / Friday April 26 / 1907," 4 pages, 6.25" x 8.75".
(5) Bank Statement, 1 page, 14" x 8.5". Titled: "Dr. Mr. Louis M. Ogden in account with Brown Brothers & Co., New York. Cr." Drafts from May 18, 1912 to December 16, 1912. Stamped "Paid / Dec 18 1912 / Brown Brothers & Co." With two related 1912 statements pinned together.
Louis M. Ogden (1867-1946) was a Columbia graduate and lawyer. Later, he became Vice President and Director of the Ogden Lumber Co. and Director of the East River Mill & Lumber Co. On a clear, April morning in 1912, aboard the RMS Carpathia, Ogden rushed to his quarters to retrieve his new camera. On the horizon, several lifeboats appeared carrying Titanic survivors.
