Titanic - Collection owned by "Carpathia" passenger and photographer Louis M. Ogden

Comprises:

(1) Postcard, 5.5" x 3.5". Picturing the "Carpathia" and "Titanic" rescue boats. Captioned at the left: "Rescuing the 705 survivors of the Titanic, sunk off Halifax. April 15, 1912. 1,600 persons were drowned. Insurance loss, $14,500,000. Published by Joseph Koehler, 150 Park Row, N.Y." Captioned at the right: "The Carpathia was on her way to the Mediterranean with 200 passengers on board, when Capt. Rostrom [sic, Rostron] received the distress calls from the Titanic fifty-six miles away."

(2) Cunard Line booklet, 12 pages, 4.75" x 7.5". Pictorial cover in color. "Cunard Line / Francinia Laconia / America Europe / Egypt New York Harbor." Two pages of "Information for Passengers," map of European routes in centerfold. "List of / Saloon Passengers / per / S.S. 'Carpathia,' / Commander - A.H. Rostron, R.D., R.N.R. - / From Trieste to New York, Nov. 14th 1912. via Fiume, Messina, Palermo, Naples, and Gibraltar" Listed as two of the 43 Saloon passengers are: "Mr L M Ogden" and "Mrs. Ogden." Not listed, but noted, "Second Cabin - 214," "Third Class - 1653," "Total - 1910."

Louis M. Ogden (1867-1946) was a Columbia graduate and lawyer. Later, he became Vice President and Director of the Ogden Lumber Co. and Director of the East River Mill & Lumber Co. On a clear, April morning in 1912, aboard the RMS Carpathia, Ogden rushed to his quarters to retrieve his new camera. On the horizon, several lifeboats appeared carrying Titanic survivors.
