Rehnquist in gold banded judicial robes standing in front of table in the Senate's Presidential Suite, photographed by Franz Jantzen, Supreme Court Collections Manager, on February 11, 1999 during the Senate Impeachment hearings of 42nd U.S. President Bill Clinton. Below photo, beveled white mat is signed "For Ed Turner - Wm. H. Rehnquist". Yellow admissions ticket from the U.S. Senate Impeachment Trial that convened during the first session of the 106th Congress is stamped "Feb 08 1999" and affixed below. Typewritten collections label located on paper backing verso. In extra fine condition, with frame measuring 10" x 14.5".

William H. Rehnquist (1924-2005) served as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court from 1972-1986, and then as the 16th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 1986 until his death. Rehnquist leaned towards conservativism, although he was also known as the "Lone Ranger" because he often adopted his own course. As Chief Justice, William Rehnquist presided over the Senate portion of Impeachment proceedings against sitting president Bill Clinton from January 7 to February 12, 1999. Clinton, who was involved in sex scandal involving a White House intern, was accused with obstruction of justice and perjury. The admissions ticket is dated from the last open day of the trial, before the Senate began private deliberations; the photograph was taken one day before the Senate reached its vote of not guilty on either charge. Rehnquist presented this keepsake to Ed Turner, a spokesman of the Supreme Court.
