In Full:

"My dear Sir:

Yours of the 15th Inst., requesting autograph letters of Presidents Lincoln and Grant to complete your collection for exhibition, on the occasion of the Bi-Centenary of your City is received.

I have received many requests of a similar nature, and invariably answer, as I do now, that I am unwilling to part with any one of these letters under any circumstances. They all bear on matters of great historic interest, and in order to ensure their safety I have caused them to be bound in a letter book where, it is my wish they will ever remain.

Truly yours,

W.T. Sherman

General"

For collectors, this letter is a unique artifact that bridges the legacies of these three monumental figures. It is not only a Sherman signature but also a testament to his deep admiration and respect for Lincoln and Grant, making it a perfect complement to any collection dedicated to these leaders or the Civil War.
