VP "Dick Nixon" TLS Re: 1952 Win, Plus Nixon Administration-Era Items, 5+ Pcs

A small archive related to Richard Nixon (1913-1994) during both his vice presidency and presidency, 5+ pieces, ca. 1953-1972. Featuring a typed letter signed by newly elected Vice President Richard Nixon as "Dick Nixon." Also including a typed letter signed by President Nixon's Deputy National Security Advisor Alexander M. Haig; a White House envelope addressed to a Nixon nephew Richard C. Nixon; a photograph of Nixon's 1969 inauguration; a stamp block of 15 unused "Nixon Now" stamps; and a photocopy from the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library regarding the Johnson/Nixon transition. Overall very good, but please see individual condition notes below, and consult the catalog photos for additional information related to condition.

The lot includes:

1. A 1p typed letter signed by Vice President Richard Nixon as "Dick Nixon" at lower right. February 27, 1953. [Washington, D.C.] On watermarked stationery with "Office of the Vice President / Washington" letterhead. Expected wear including flattened paper folds, and staple holes at upper left. Else near fine. 8" x 10.5."

Vice President Nixon wrote leading Louisiana Republican John Minor Wisdom (1905-1999), in part: "Now that the rather hectic days of the post-election and inaugural periods are over, I want to take this opportunity to tell you how very much I appreciated the great contribution you made to our victory on November 4'Ours was a team victory in every sense of the word, and the efforts of every member of the team were essential in rolling up the smashing majority we received'"

Wisdom, in addition to serving as Republican National Committeeman from Louisiana, was a 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals judge. In the 1952 presidential election, the Republican Dwight Eisenhower/Richard Nixon ticket won 55.2% of the popular vote and 442 Electoral College votes versus the 44.3% and 89 Electoral College votes secured by Democratic challenger Adlai Stevenson II/John Sparkman. Nationally, the difference was enough to put Eisenhower and Nixon over the top, but Louisiana actually went to the Democrats in 1952 (during the following presidential election, in 1956, Wisdom is credited with helping flip Louisiana Republican for the first time in 80 years.)

2. A 1p typed letter signed by Alexander M. Haig (1924-2010), then in his role as Nixon's Deputy National Security Advisor, addressed to journalist Earl Mazo (1919-2007) regarding a gifted "bleu cheese." December 23, 1971. [Washington, D.C.] On watermarked "The White House / Washington" stationery. A few folds and wrinkles, else near fine. 6.25" x 9.25."

3. A White House envelope addressed to a nephew of President Nixon named Richard C. Nixon, a Seaman Recruit stationed in Newport Beach, California. Postmarked September 30, 1972. Expected weathering. Accompanied by email correspondence from a seller dated May 18, 2004.

4. A modern color glossy photograph of President Nixon's inauguration ceremony on January 20, 1969.

5. A stamp block of 15 "Nixon Now" from Nixon's 1972 presidential campaign, unused and uncirculated.

6. A photocopy of a presidential memorandum dated November 22, 1968, regarding "a request from the President-elect" which Johnson rejected with a "Hell no." Retrieved from the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library.
