Description:

A telling look at Truman Capote's stint in military school. Capote signs the inside of his textbook and mocks St. John's Military School calling it " Bug House." Many say that was a time where he built the personal strength and coldness that allowed him to befriend the murderers and write " In Cold Blood."

TRUMAN CAPOTE (1924-1984) Book: Rabenort's Geography by William Rabenort, American Book Company, hardcover, with Capote's ownership signature " Truman Capote / St. John's Military School", on the front free endpaper, with " Military School" crossed out and replaced with " Bug House" by Capote. On the front cover he has added " Puby Beamsburn Huttenttots." Capote attended St. John's when he moved to New York in 1933. It was there that his mother remarried Joseph Capote who adopted Truman and renamed him Truman Garcia Capote. In his 1966 book " A Christmas Memory", Capote writes of being sent away to military school. "...Those who Know Best decide that I belong in a military School. And so follows a miserable succession of bugle-blowing prisons, grim reveille-ridden summer camps." Very good.
