The Battle of Guilford Court House occurred on March 15, 1781, pitting a force of 2,100 British soldiers under Lt. General Charles Cornwallis against a nearly double-in-size force of 4,500 American soldiers under Major General Nathanael Greene. Despite being a British victory, Cornwallis' troops suffered considerable losses of approximately 27% in only 90 minutes.

The "New Jersey Gazette" was the very first newspaper published in the state, having been started just three years prior in 1778.
