Charles Hardin Holley (1936-1959), known professionally as Buddy Holly, was an American singer, songwriter, and musician who was a central and pioneering figure of mid-1950s rock and roll. Holly made his first appearance on local television in 1952, and the following year formed the group Buddy and Bob with his friend Bob Montgomery. The two soon started performing on the "Sunday Party" show on KDAV, in addition to performing various live gigs in Lubbock. Not long after in 1955, Holly was approached to begin a solo career under Decca Records. Despite this separation, Montgomery continued to collaborate with his friend in co-writing songs such as "Heartbeat", "Wishing", and "Love's Made a Fool of You".
