Richard Nixon Thanks a Boys' Clubs Donor: "It will help fulfill one of Mr. [Herbert] Hoover's dreams"
TLS

Richard Nixon typed letter signed. 1 p. on his personal letterhead, 7.25" x 10.5"; New York; March 22, 1966. Nixon writes as Chairman of the Board of the Boys' Clubs of America thanking a donor for a substantial donation. Signed, "Richard Nixon" and accompanied by the original transmittal envelope. Docketed in pencil at top right. With flattened folds and staple holds in the left margin, otherwise near fine.

Nixon sends thanks to the trustees of the May Treat Morrison Nature Study Foundation for their decision to dissolve the fund and gift the proceeds to the endowments of the San Francisco Boys' Club and the Boys' Clubs of America. He adds: "This will mean much to the stimulation of the growth of Boys' Clubs in this particular area in the years ahead. It will help fulfill one of Mr. [Herbert] Hoover's dreams which was to have an abundance of Boys' Clubs, especially in the California area."

Herbert Hoover had served as Chairman of the Boys' Club of America from 1936 to 1960 and was a strong advocate for youth development programs. Having grown up an orphan, Hoover appreciated and understood the value of these clubs in preventing boys from becoming juvenile delinquents. When Hoover became Chairman of the organization, there were nearly 300 clubs across the country, and he worked diligently to double their number. By 1960, the organization had more than 600 clubs serving 600,000 boys.

Great association letter tying two Republican presidents and the philanthropic work they shared!
