Description:

Revolutionary War

Revolutionary War 1773-1789 Fixing Wheels Fascinating

[REVOLUTIONARY WAR.], Accounts for Robert Lenthall Eells of Hanover, Massachusetts, of services for Thomas Church and Lemuel Curtis, 1773-1789.  4 pp., 8" x 12.5". Edge tears and some fading at bottom of one page.

These interesting leaves from an account book show the services that neighboring farmers, all captains during the Revolutionary War, performed for each other, like sharpening and repairing plows, pick axes, and pitchforks, as well as repairing and installing wheels and horseshoes.

These two leaves come from a larger account book kept by Robert Lenthall Eells during the Revolutionary War and detail goods and services that he provided to both Captain Thomas Church and Captain Lemuel Curtis. Eells was a large landowner in Hanover, Massachusetts, approximately 20 miles southeast of Boston. The last three columns indicate the charge in pounds, shillings, and pence. One entry, on July 10, 1775, comes just weeks after the Battle of Bunker Hill.
