Reagan-Era 1983 State of the Union Ticket Presentation Piece, Ready for Display!
Ticket/invitation
A 1983 State of the Union entrance ticket mounted in a presentation mat dedicated "To Wiley and Bet Harrell / With best wishes" from 40th U.S. President Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) and First Lady Nancy Reagan (1921-2016), whose signatures we believe are either secretarial or auto pen, appearing as "Ronald Reagan" (lower right) and "Nancy Reagan" (lower left) respectively. The unnumbered ticket to the Visitor's Gallery in the House of Representatives to attend President Reagan's 1983 Address to Congress and the State of the Union speech is printed on bold red stock card and embossed at the center. The ticket is displayed below a large, glossy, black and white photograph of the visitor's balcony, where First Lady Nancy Reagan can be seen seated in the front row. Expected wear including isolated scuffs and smudges. A slightly blunted upper right mat corner. Else very good to near fine. The sight size of the entrance ticket is 5.375" x 2.5" while the mat overall measures 13.875" x 13.5" x .25."

President Reagan delivered his State of the Union address before members of the 98th U.S. Congress on January 25, 1983 at 9 pm. Reagan's principal talking points included the promise of economic recovery, slow and painful after years of inflation, recession, and unemployment; the importance of radically reducing federal spending and the government deficit; and the need for working across the aisle to accomplish his presidential agenda.

Wiley and Betty "Bet" Harrell can be seen meeting and greeting the Reagans at a White House event in the Blue Room held a few years later, on May 16, 1987. The couple was photographed attending an event connected with a tennis tournament held for the Nancy Reagan Drug Abuse Fund. The photographs can be seen in the collection of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum, accession number C40714 (01) 2-15.
