A dealer's lot of political autographs including autograph letters signed, typed letters signed, signed cards, and signed ephemera. Past and present U.S. Presidents, U.S. Vice Presidents, U.S. cabinet members, U.S. ambassadors, U.S. Senators, state governors, and administration officials are represented. Signers include, in alphabetical order: Thomas E. Dewey; Gerald Ford; Hannibal Hamlin; Hubert Humphrey; Robert La Follette, Jr.; Richard Rush; and Pierre Salinger. Various dates, among those explicitly stated being ca. 1850-1993. Various locations. Please refer to catalog photos for additional information related to condition, which is overall very good; individual condition issues are elaborated below. The largest item measures 8" x 11."

The lot includes, in alphabetical order:

1. A card signed by New York Governor Thomas E. Dewey (1902-1971) as "Thomas E Dewey" at center. N.d. but ca. 1943-1954. [Albany, New York]. Encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified authentic. The card is printed "State of New York / Executive Mansion / Albany" along the top and features an elaborate gilt-embossed state seal at upper left. The card measures 5" x 3" while the slab measures 7.125" x 4.25."

2. A blank scorecard from the Augusta National Golf Club signed by former 38th U.S. President Gerald Ford (1913-2006) as "Gerald R. Ford" recto. N.d. but ca. 1993. N.p. Encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified authentic. The bifold scorecard appears to be pristine. The card measures 6.25" x while the slab measures 10" x 6.625."

3. A signature clip signed by Ford as "Gerald Ford" at center. N.d., n.p. Encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified authentic. Slabbed 5.25" x 3.125."

4. A card signed by former U.S. Vice President Hannibal Hamlin (1809-1891) as "H. Hamlin / Maine" at center. Inscribed with the date "1875" in another hand. N.p. Encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified authentic. Lightly toned, and with minor mounting traces verso. Slabbed 7.25" x 4.25."

5. A 1p typed letter signed by U.S. Vice President Hubert Humphrey (1911-1978) as "Hubert H Humphrey" above his printed signature. November 15, 1967. [Washington, D.C.] The letter on "The Vice President / Washington" letterhead has been trimmed along the bottom, mounted, and loosely encapsulated within a transparent protector. A few smudges, else near fine. The letter fragment measures 7" x 6.75." To local radio station news director Lou Corbin regarding Humphrey's recent visit to Baltimore, Maryland.

6. A 1p typed letter signed by U.S. Senator from Wisconsin Robert M. La Follette, Jr. (1895-1953) as "Robert M. La Follette Jr." October 6, 1925. [Madison, Wisconsin]. On watermarked stationery with "Progressive Republican Headquarters" letterhead. Flattened transmittal folds and a few isolated scuffs, smudges, and stray pencil marks, else very good to near fine. 8" x 11." To New York City lawyer William Sulzer regarding the recent primary election results in Wisconsin. La Follette, Jr. would succeed his father as U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, filling his father's vacant seat (Robert La Follette, Sr. had died in office four months earlier.)

7. A 1p autograph letter signed by Richard Rush (1780-1859), recently retired from his post as United States Minister to France, as "Richard Rush" at lower right. March 21, 1850. "Syndenham, near Phila:." On laid bifold paper, the first page adhered to and partly torn from the blank third page. Isolated foxing, else near fine. 4.5" x 7.25." Rush conveys his thanks to a friend, "Mr. Dickens," who had transmitted some documents (not included in this lot.)

8. A card signed by Kennedy- and Johnson-era Press Secretary Pierre Salinger (1925-2004) as "Pierre Salinger" at center. Embossed "The White House / Washington" at upper right. Isolated stains affecting the bottom margin, else near fine. 4" x 2.5."

Unless otherwise indicated, we do our own in-house world-wide shipping!

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. We offer several shipping options, and remain one of the few auction houses that proudly provides professional in-house shipping as an option to our clients. All items will ship with a signature required option, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.

Third-Party Shipping Option: If a third-party shipper is preferred, the buyer is responsible for contacting them directly to make shipping arrangements. For your convenience, we have provided some recommended shippers. For your protection, we will require a signed release from you, confirming your authorization for us to release your lots to your specified third-party. At that point, our responsibility and insurance coverage for your item(s) ceases. Items picked up by third-party shippers are required to pay Connecticut sales tax. Items requiring third-party shipping due to being oversized, fragile or bulky will be denoted in the item description.
