Description:

Bush George H. W. 1924 -

Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush sign official White House photo.

Spectacular 8" x 10" glossy color copy of Eric Draper's original Official White House photograph capturing 41th U.S. President George H.W. Bush (born 1926) and his son and 43rd President of the United States George W. Bush (born 1946). Twice signed "George Bush" in black felt tip marker along bottom margin under each respective portrait, with the younger Bush's signature extending past the color field. Stamped "Official Photograph - The White House, 23 Dec 01 ... Eric Draper" verso and hand-inscribed in part "Signed in person by Pres. George H.W. Bush For Ronald Wade 12 - 22 - 09 Houston Office" verso. In near fine condition, with two slight thumb impressions located on the right side. From the superb collection of Ronald Ellis Wade.

Eric Draper, White House Photo Director during the George W. Bush administration and personal photographer of George W. Bush, snapped this double portrait in December 2001. Father and son, and past and current president, stand side by side against a dramatic black studio backdrop. The photo composition showcases the physical resemblance between the two men. George W. Bush dominates the photo, visually underscoring his importance as president-elect; other visual cues differentiating him from the elder Bush include his flag lapel pin and optimistic smile.

The nation was reeling from the September 11th terrorist attacks and embroiled in a contentious voting recount in Florida at the time of this photo shoot. Yet one would never know about the chaos judging from the triumphant pose of George W. Bush. Draper's left to right composition suggests the passing of the presidential mantle from the elder Bush to the younger Bush.

Collector Ronald Wade recorded that the elder Bush signed this photograph in Houston, Texas in 2009. At this juncture, George W. Bush had finished his two presidential terms and the American public had just elected Barack Obama as 44th U.S. President.

A remarkable photo with matching provenance!

Below is an interesting interview from TheHill.com, about Ron Wade and his collection of Presidential memorabilia:

Step into Ronald Wade's office and it's easy to see why he's listed in "Guinness World Records 2015" for the largest collection of U.S. presidential memorabilia -- it's really a replica of the Oval Office.

"Actually, they quit counting," Wade says of his immense collection of White House and presidential campaign items, "because I probably have closer to 20,000 or 30,000 items, if not closer to 100,000 - that's with duplication." The official count from the folks behind the famed book puts Wade's collection in chief at 6,960 pieces as of last year.

The lifelong Republican has been racking up "practically anything that has to do with American politics" since he was 10 years old.

"My first memory in life is wearing an 'I Like Ike' button, and I was probably 4 years old. So I've always been interested in politics," Wade, 64, tells ITK.

The retired Texas Department of Human Services supervisor and Ex White House aide to President Nixon, says he counts former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush as friends. His most prized item in the collection is from the 41st commander-in-chief's failed 1964 Senate bid.

"George W. has been to my house, and seen my collection, and was quite impressed," boasts Wade, who has also donated several pieces from his massive memorabilia stockpile to the George W. Bush Presidential Library outside Dallas.
