(Republicans, of course)..."

Rare full page Autograph Letter Signed "Jerry Ford," 1 page, 7.25" x 10.25". No place, July 17, 1978. To "A.B." [Albert Bartel Hermann]. On his personal stationery with gilt-embossed presidential seal at top center. Never folded. Pristine condition.

In full, "Dear A.B.: The Republican National Committee will never be the same without you and that will be a great loss to present and future Chairmen, to members of the National Committee to State Chairmen, to members of Congress and to past Presidents of the U.S.A. (Republicans, of course) Our friendship and working relationship goes back many years as I know first hand what an outstanding person you are and in every respect. My memories are all good. You have been wise, loyal, decent, hardworking, dedicated and fun. It was always a pleasure to work with you because I knew your aim was constructive & effective success for the G.O.P. I thank you for your long & wonderful service to the Republican Party but also to a better America. God Bless you. Jerry Ford"

Albert B. "Ab" Hermann (1899-1980) was Executive Director of the Republican National Committee from 1949-1952 and 1957-1961. Gerald Ford first entered Congress in 1949, became Minority Leader in 1965, Vice President in 1973, and President in 1974. A.B. also served as campaign manager and special assistant to the RNC Chairman. He was director of the Speakers' Bureau when he retired in 1978. In 1923, Al Hermann played 1st, 2nd, and 3rd base in 31 games for the Boston Braves, then played in the minor leagues for seven years.
