Six books signed by Fillmore _ TWO AS PRESIDENT! Complete ten volume set of "The Life and Works of John Adams" by Charles Francis Adams, from Millard Fillmore's Library

"The Works and Works of John Adams" by Charles Francis Adams, with notes and illustrations. Complete set of 10 volumes, each 5.5" x 9". Millard Fillmore has penned "G-3" on each title page indicating the book's shelf location. Boston: Little, Brown and Company. Light foxing. Tears at upper and lower spine edges. All 10 volumes are in good condition. Volumes were published from 1850-1856. Volumes I (published 1856), Volume II (1850), Volume III (1851), Volume VIII (1853), Volume IX (1854), and Volume X (1856) are each signed and dated by Fillmore, Volumes II & III as President. Volume I (684pp) and Volume X (519pp including index to all 10 volumes) each signed "Millard Fillmore / Oct. 24. 1856" vertically inside the front cover. Each book is lightly foxed inside front cover, heavily foxed inside back cover. Fillmore had been nominated for President by the American (Know-Nothing) Party on February 22, 1856. On November 4, 1856, 11 days after receiving and signing these two volumes completing the set, Fillmore won 22% of the popular vote, winning Maryland's 8 electoral votes, losing to Democrat Buchanan (45%, 174 electoral votes) and Fremont (33%, 114), the first nominee of the new Republican party. Volume II (542pp) and Volume III (576pp) each signed "Millard Fillmore / Sept. 10. 1851" as President, vertically inside the front cover. Volume VIII (691pp) and Volume IX (643pp) each signed "Millard Fillmore / June 26. 1854" vertically inside the front cover. Volume IV (published 1851), Volume V (1851), Volume VI (1851), and Volume VII (1852) are each signed "Millard Fillmore," possibly by his son, Millard P. Fillmore, who served as his father's White House secretary, 1850-1853.
