Description:

Khruschev issues a stern message concerning serious shortfalls in the expansion of government run stores

Typed Document Signed, "N Khrushchev," in Cyrillic, as Chief of the Ukrainian Council of Ministers, 2 pages, 8" x 11.5", Kharkov, November 23, 1947 to Chief of Oblispolkom tovarisch Voloshin and Chief of Oblkompart tovarisch Koval. Countersigned "D[emian] Korotchenko," as Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Ukrainian S.S.R. File holes at left margin, a few minor pinholes not affecting text, else fine condition.

The document reads, in most part (translated): "Resolution of the Council of Ministries of the USSR and the Council of Ministries of Ukraine about the expansion of the commercial network in your Oblast fulfills absolutely unsatisfactory. ON the second half of 1947, 263 stores opened instead of the planned 390, among them, local trade opened for only 81 instead of the planned 159, 20 co-operative societies opened in the city instead of 54. The plan of opening the bread selling network went very badly.... there must be 100 shops opened rather than 47. The preparation of acting stores is not completed. Commercial premises that are occupied for other purposes are not cleaned. Exploitation of additional bread baking capacity for Millplant #5 in Khar'kov and in Lozovaja and Volchansk delayed. The Ukrainian Council of Ministers and Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine charged you to check out immediately to fulfill the plans for additional openings in the consumer network, repairing acting stores, clearing premises, and ensuring to exceed these tasks up to 12/05/47 in every city, region and construction project. The Ukrainian Council of Ministers and Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine turns your attention on the exceptional importance of these measures that provide fulfillment of governmental resolutions to this question. Present your report on how these indications are fulfilled on 11/28/47."

Demian Korotchenko was the 6th Chairman of the council of Ministers of the Ukrainian S.S.R., serving from 1947 to 1854, an office preceded by Nikita Khrushchev. Later Korotchenko would support Khrushchev as party leader in 1953.
