Muhammad Ali (1942-2016) was an American boxer and activist who is widely regarded as one of the greatest athletes of all time. He was born Cassius Clay in 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky and from the age of 14, rose to become world heavyweight boxing champion in 1964. Ali was known for his flamboyant persona and his outspoken beliefs, particularly concerning civil rights and his Muslim faith. He converted to Islam in 1964 and changed his name from Cassius Clay to Muhammad Ali. Ali was an advocate for social justice and was outspoken about his faith and its teachings. He regularly spoke about his devotion to Islam and its teachings, often citing the Qur'an to support his views. Ali retired from boxing in 1981 and devoted much of his time to philanthropy.
