A small group of vintage photographs either taken by or preserved in the photography collection of Albany, New York-based press photographer Morris Gerber (1919-2004), documenting the circus in Albany from ca. 1910-1960s. [Albany, New York.] One of the photos is sepia-colored, while the rest are glossy black and white gelatin silver prints. All of the photos are hand-stamped verso as: "Morris Gerber Collection / 55 Sycamore Street / Albany N.Y. 12208." Please refer to catalog photos for additional information related to condition. Expected wear including isolated scuffs, wrinkles, and stains else near fine. The largest photo measures 9.375" x 7.375" while the rest of the group measures 8.875" x 7". Six photos total.

Morris Gerber, a Jewish World War II veteran, began his lifelong career as a press photographer after the war. Gerber worked for the "Albany Times-Union" newspaper for 30 years, during which time he took many photographs of Albany and its citizens, with a special focus on daily life, cultural traditions, and city history. In addition to publishing a 5-volume pictorial history of Old Albany, Gerber also made it a priority to photograph historical or municipal buildings in Albany that faced imminent demolition. For more information about Morris Gerber, please see the Albany Institute of History and Art, which holds the Morris Gerber Photograph Collection, an assortment of approximately 30,000 photographic prints and negatives of Albany which Gerber assembled before his death.

The lot is comprised of:

1. A photograph showing a circus procession, including two columns of shackled elephants, advancing up Broadway Street, Albany, New York. N.d. but ca. 1910.

2. A photograph showing a circus employee adjusting a tiger's cage with a pole.

3. A photograph depicting circus attendees milling about an open field, with a herd of elephants visible in the background.

4. A photograph showing circus attendees with cotton candy and balloons watching a spectacle from behind a rope.

5. A photograph depicting an elephant in harness and chain under a circus tent.

6. A photograph showing a caged tiger.

Unless otherwise indicated, we do our own in-house world-wide shipping!

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. All items will ship with a signature required option, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.

Third-Party Shipping Option: If a third-party shipper is preferred, the buyer is responsible for contacting them directly to make shipping arrangements. For your convenience, we have provided some recommended shippers. For your protection, we will require a signed release from you, confirming your authorization for us to release your lots to your specified third-party. At that point, our responsibility and insurance coverage for your item(s) ceases. Items picked up by third-party shippers are required to pay Connecticut sales tax. Items requiring third-party shipping due to being oversized, fragile or bulky will be denoted in the item description.
