Mamie Eisenhower Thirteen Signed Bank Checks, October-November 1944

A group of thirteen World War II-dated checks signed by Mamie Eisenhower, wife of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. All measure 8.25" x 3.125" and draw on The Riggs National Bank in Washington, D.C. Twelve of the thirteen are signed "Mamie D. Eisenhower" and the other differs slightly, signed "Mamie Eisenhower." The checks date from early October to mid-November and are as follows:

2. November 4, 1944, No. 33: $222.42 payable to the Wardman Park Hotel
3. November 4, 1944, No. 34: $16.00 payable to Mary Newton
4. November 4, 1944, No. 35: $15.00 payable to Cash
5. November 7, 1944, No. 36: $21.16 payable to United Services Auto Associate
6. November 9, 1944, No. 38: $2.50 payable to Frank R. Jelleff
7. November 9, 1944, No. 39: $7.23 payable to Neshan G. Hintlian
8. November 9, 1944, No. 40: $32.11 payable to John S. Doud
9. November 10, 1944, No. 41: $16.00 payable to Mary Newton
10. November 10, 1944, No. 42: $153.31 payable to O. L. Veerhoff
11. November 10, 1944, No. 43: $12.20 payable to Denver Industrial Bank
12. November 13, 1944, No. 44: $10.00 payable to Mary Newton
13. November 14, 1944, No. 45: $40.08 payable to Harry's

During the Second World War, Mamie Eisenhower spent a great amount of time at the Wardman Park Hotel while her husband was fighting abroad. Mary Newton had been one of Mamie's maids. All the checks have cancellation punches, with bank stamps and deposit signatures on verso. Varying degrees of soiling to the group, most are clean. All have bold signatures.

All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
