Description:

D. D. Eisenhower TLS "we will no longer live in fear of another war"

1p, measuring 5.75" x 7.75", Augusta, Georgia, dated November 9, 1952. Signed "Dwight D Eisenhower" and addressed to Jeremiah Milbank. Written just five days after Eisenhower's landslide victory in the 1952 presidential election against Adlai Stevenson. Reads in full:

"My deep thanks for your thoughtful letter of congratulations. I believe we all have the same hope that the world conditions will be so improved that we will no longer live in fear of another war. I am glad to hear that the Institute for the Crippled and Disabled is doing nicely. I wish I could have done more for them. My thanks again for your good wishes, and warm personal regards to yourself." With flattened mail folds and faint soiling. Mounting residue on verso at the top two corners. Boldly signed.

Eisenhower had retained his popularity from the war and was a frontrunner for the nomination at the Republican National Convention. He did had strong competition from Ohio Senator Robert A. Taft, but ultimately won the nomination. Harry Truman's unpopularity also aided Eisenhower's victory, as many in the country were distancing themselves from the Democratic party. With Eisenhower winning the presidency, the record of Democratic wins that stretched back to 1932 was finally broken.
