Description:

Lincoln Abraham

Logan and Lincoln signed autographed receipt

Single page autograph document signed, 8" x 3.25," as a receipt. Dated "Springfield 2nd April, 1844" and signed as "Logan & Lincoln," in unknown hand. Page is toned with small edge tears strengthened on verso. Ex Norman Boas, Seaport Autographs, Ex Christies 12/5/2017.

A lovely association piece with the Document shown in full below:

"Received of Eli C. Blankinship, one of the administrators of Archibald Trailor deceased - Twelve dollars and fifty cents in full for our fee for Petitioners to sell real estate of said Trailor including writing deed to purchaser.

Logan & Lincoln."

Eli Blankinship was a Springfield merchant who first met Lincoln in New Salem. On at least two occasions Lincoln represented Blankinship and Company in obtaining financial settlements and in legal actions. Archibald Trailor and his brother William are noted for the trial in which they were both charged with murder. They were defended by Abraham Lincoln and declared innocent by the court. An interesting association piece.
