Photograph Inscribed & Signed "To Deke De Loach / With high esteem and appreciation / from his friend / Lyndon B. Johnson" as President on the matt. Black & white, 7.25" x 9.25" image, overall 11" x 14". Fine condition.


Cartha Dekle "Deke" DeLoach (1920-2013) joined the FBI in 1942. In 1965, J. Edgar Hoover promoted him to the job of Deputy Director of the bureau, making him the third most senior official in the FBI after J. Edgar Hoover and Deputy Director Clyde Tolson. DeLoach was involved in the investigation of the assassination of President Kennedy. He helped lead the FBI's investigation of the killings of civil rights workers James Cheney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner in 1964. After Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in 1968, DeLoach personally directed the investigation that led to the dramatic and internationally publicized arrest of James Earl Ray. DeLoach retired in 1970.

This photograph was taken by Arnold Newman in The White House on December 19, 1963, four weeks after the assassination of President Kennedy.
