Kennedy Family Archive: JFK, RFK & Rose Kennedy, 50 Pcs, Some Signed

A large and diverse collection of items relating to the Kennedy Family and their intimates, with the majority of the items dating from ca. 1959-1968. The items relate either directly or indirectly to 35th U.S. President John F. Kennedy (1917-1963); U.S. Attorney General and presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy (1925-1968); and matriarch Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy (1890-1995). Items include a Rose Kennedy signature, secretarial notes from Evelyn Lincoln, correspondence, political campaigning material, photographs, and ephemera, 50 pieces total. Individual condition issues will be discussed below. Please refer to catalog photos for additional information related to condition, which is overall good to very good. Some of the items come with provenance from the Robert L. White Museum Collection.

The lot is comprised of:

John F. Kennedy (21 pieces)

- A 1p typed letter signed by Evelyn Lincoln (1909-1995), JFK's longtime personal secretary, as "Evelyn Lincoln" at center. June 20, 1961. [Washington, D.C.] On watermarked "The White House / Washington" stationery. Expected folds, and isolated paper clip impressions and smudges, else near fine.

- A 1p typewritten list of Kennedy's appointments from December 14, 1960, with Evelyn Lincoln's manuscript additions and emendations, retrieved from Kennedy's Senate files. On the reverse of a "House of Representatives / Committee on Rules" stationery leaf evidently used as scrap paper. Near fine. 6" x 8." On December 14, 1960, President-Elect Kennedy had only about two weeks left to his term as Senator from Massachusetts. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Universal Autograph Collectors' Club member Erik L. Dorr testifying that this item was once part of the Robert L. White Museum Collection.

- 4pp autograph notes in the hand of Evelyn Lincoln, from her estate, dating from after JFK's assassination. On red-ruled and blue-lined yellow paper. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Erik L. Dorr testifying that these items were once part of the Robert L. White Museum Collection.

- Seven original previously unpublished photographs of John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy's home at 3307 N St., N.W., Georgetown, Washington, D.C. taken by Robert L. White, ca. 1977. The glossy black and white snapshots are on Kodak photo paper, 5" x 3.5." Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Erik L. Dorr testifying that these items were once part of the Robert L. White Museum Collection.

- Modern reprint after the original photograph by Robert Knudsen showing Evelyn Lincoln working with JFK at the White House, November 14, 1961. Glossy and black and white, with a few scuffs at the top. 8" x 10."

- Western Union telegram dated October 27, 1959 signed in print by future White House Press Secretary Pierre Salinger addressed to newspaper publisher Walter Kane, bearing the usual stamps and clerical markings. Toning and scattered chipped edges, else good. 8.25" x 10."

- Two unused, unfolded matchbook covers dating from JFK's 1960 presidential campaign, one advertising Kennedy for President; and one featuring both Kennedy and Johnson.

- A group of four tickets and passes: one to the July 15, 1960 Democratic National Convention; two to 1961 presidential inauguration events; and one to an October 19, 1962 event, "President John F. Kennedy Meets With Democrats of Illinois." Expected wear including toning, else near fine. The largest measures 7" x 2.75."

Robert F. Kennedy (27 pieces)

- Robert F. Kennedy Democratic Party Primary broadside for South Dakota, June 4, [1968], emblazoned in part, "Vote KENNEDY June 4 / This Campaign Proves / Kennedy Cares / about / South Dakota!" Collins Printing Co. (Huron, South Dakota). Expected wear including scattered folds, wrinkles, and scuffs. Isolated tiny closed tears along the edges, and pencil doodles verso, else near fine. 8.75" x 11.125." RFK was shot by Sirhan Sirhan on June 5, 1968, a day after the South Dakota primary, which RFK had won by popular vote. At the time of RFK's death on June 6, 1968, he was in second place behind Vice President Hubert Humphrey.

- Two large unused "Kennedy" bumper stickers dating from RFK's 1968 presidential campaign. Expected weathering to the corners, else very good. 11.75" x 4."

- Twelve medium unused "Kennedy" bumper stickers from RFK's 1968 presidential campaign, minor toning, else near fine. 11" x 3.25."

- Six "Kennedy / Nebraskans for Kennedy" unused mailing envelopes dating from RFK's 1968 presidential campaign. Minor toning and edge darkening, else near fine. 9.5" x 4.125." RFK won the popular vote in the Nebraska primary on May 14, 1968.

- Five "Kennedy" handouts from RFK's 1968 presidential campaign, listing RFK's credentials and seven campaign goals verso, the top one being "Concrete recommendations toward an honorable end to the war in Viet Nam." One with a repaired closed tear at the left edge and mounting residue. Else very good. 5.375" x 8.5."

- "Kennedy For President / Marion County Vote 1H Democratic" pocket sized handout from RFK's 1968 presidential campaign, distributed in advance of the May 7, 1968 Indiana primary, which RFK won by popular vote. 4.5" x 2.625."

Rose Kennedy (2 pieces)

- Signature clip belonging to Rose Kennedy, signed in full as "Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy" at the center of a trimmed envelope cover. Overall size 6.875" x 2.375."

- Modern reprint after the original photograph by Abbie Rowe showing Rose Kennedy standing next to JFK at the First Annual International Awards Dinner of the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation, December 6, 1962. Glossy and black and white, 8" x 10."

We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.
