John F. Kennedy Signed & Inscribed Photo In Cartier Silver Frame as Pres. to J. Kingsbury-Smith. His favorite Rocking Chair!
Signed photograph
Vintage black and white photograph depicting John F. Kennedy and journalist Joseph Kingsbury-Smith seated in the Oval Office. 1p, 11" x 9.5" (sight), [Washington, D.C.], December 1, 1961. Signed and inscribed in fountain pen on the mount as President: "For Joe Smith- with esteem and very best wishes/ John F. Kennedy". Housed within a silver Cartier frame, measuring 12.5" x 11" overall. Exhibits mild toning and damp staining to perimeter of mount, not affecting signature or text. Light tarnishing and surface scratching to frame. Otherwise, near fine. Accompanied by an LOA from James Spence Authentication, issued on behalf of R&R Auctions in March 2009.

Joseph Kingsbury-Smith (1908-1999) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter and publisher of the "New York Journal-American". Kennedy first met Kingsbury-Smith in London when his father, Joseph P. Kennedy, was appointed U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom. Indeed, the journalist would later remember Kennedy Sr. as a considerate friend and member of his inner circle. In 1956, Kingsbury-Smith was part of a group awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Distinguished Reporting after conducting a series of interviews with Nikita Khrushchev and other top Soviet leaders the year prior. This image, originally captured by White House photographer Cecil Stoughton, was produced during a visit by Kingsbury-Smith in December 1961.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
