Description:

John F. Kennedy
n.p., n.d.
John F. Kennedy Presidential Autographs & Commemorative Medals In Unique Bookend Presentation - With Addt'l Numismatic Value!
Signed relics

An assembled set of two Lucite bookends, each containing a John F. Kennedy signed card and a JFK commemorative Kennedy medal artfully suspended within. N.d., n.p. The items sealed within the bookends are associated with Phil Regan (1906-1996), an Irish-American singer popular in the 1930s and 1940s. Expected surface wear including isolated scuffs and scratches, as well as isolated dings affecting the bookend bases and edges. The smaller bookend measures 4.625" x 5" x 2.75" at deepest, while the larger bookend measures 5" x 4.75" x 3.375" at deepest. The bookends come with a photograph showing a young JFK seated next to Regan at a dinner banquet, with JFK's facsimile dedicatory inscription and signature. Scattered wrinkles. Trimmed to an overall size of 9.375" x 7.375".

Phil Regan, a Democratic booster, sang the national anthem at Harry S. Truman's 1949 inauguration. During John F. Kennedy's presidency, Regan occasionally hosted JFK and his staffers at the former's Palm Springs, California home.

Each bookend contains a gilt-edged card embedded at the bottom of the block and signed by John F. Kennedy as president, as: "John F Kennedy." The cards are emblazoned with an embossed gilt presidential seal at top, above the calligraphic inscription: "For: Phil Regan / with best wishes…"

Each bookend also contains a commemorative bronze medal or medallion suspended above the Kennedy signed card. The larger medal measuring 1.75" or 44mm is displayed in the larger bookend. It is 1 of 300 "With Appreciation" medals struck at the Philadelphia Mint and personally distributed by JFK after his June 1963 Trip to Berlin, which are highly collectible for their numismatic value. The smaller medallion measuring 1.25" or 31.75mm is displayed in the smaller bookend, and was designed by Ralph J. Menconi of the Medallic Art Co. Engraved beneath the JFK base relief on the obverse with the designer's name, and unclearly engraved along the rim of the coin, almost certainly with the Medallic Art Co. name. Both have a rich, warm patina. Isolated lightened edges and tarnish, else near fine.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
