Jackson Andrew 1767 - 1845 John Coffee, Andrew Jackson's business partner and comrade-in-arms at New Orleans, is willed "the first choice of five Slaves" by his father in 1797.


Manuscript Document in the hand of and signed by John Starret on behalf of Joshua Coffee, two pages, front and verso, Guilford County, North Carolina, September 1, 1797. Marginal chips and tears, usual folds with partial separations, light toning.

John Coffee's father's last will and testament. In the will, Joshua grants his "loving son John Coffee the first choice of five Slaves to be Disposed of for the purpose of procuring Land that my loving wife Elizabeth shall enjoy the land so procured During her Natural Life ‰Û_ " The will was written by another due to Coffee's illness (he died only a week later on September 8, 1797).
