The White House

White House S.S. Agent Acquired Hors d'oeuvres Set Gifted by Japanese Prime Minister Zenko Suzuki

20th C. Filipino 12-pc hors d'oeuvres set gifted by Japanese Prime Minister Zenko Suzuki and acquired by White House Secret Service agent Warren "Woody" Taylor (born 1936). Suzuki's premiership between 1980-1982 dates this set to the Carter or Reagan administrations.

The set, comprised of 6 demi-tasse sized spoons and 6 2-tine cocktail forks, is referred to as an "olive + pickle set" on the bottom of its cardboard box reading "St. Louis School, Baguio City." The gilt utensils have cloisonné handles each inlaid with white, yellow, and red enamel flowers. Each spoon measures 4" long, and each fork measures 4.25". In pristine and likely unused condition. Accompanied by a lightly stained card reading: "Zenko Suzuki, Prime Minister."

Zenko Suzuki (1911-2017) joined Japan's Liberal Democratic Party after World War II. He held a number of ministerial posts until accepting the premiership.

Warren "Woody" Taylor worked in the Secret Service for over 20 years. Assigned to Lyndon B. Johnson's Vice-Presidential Detail in the Dallas Motorcade, Taylor witnessed and later testified about the Kennedy assassination.

Provenance: Estate of Warren "Woody" Taylor
