Gershwin, George (1898-1937) A wonderful signed limited edition of George Gershwin's Song-Book, with racy illustrations by Constantin Alajalov

His signature, "George Gershwin," accomplished on the limitation page of George Gershwin's Song-Book (New York: Random House, 1932), xi, 167pp. 4to. with an additional piece of sheet music for "Mischa, Yascha, Toscha, Sascha" housed in a special moirŽ pocket affixed to the rear pastedown. First and limited edition of 300 copies (this being number 47), printed May 1932. Additionally signed on the limitation page by illustrator Constantin Alajalov ("Alajalov"). Bound in blue morocco with gilt titled boards and spine and art deco lines adorning the edges. Spine cracked (reinforced on interior), some rubbing at corners epically at spine, very minor scratch to front board, binding intact and pages very clean.

Each of the eighteen published songs in the text is preceded by a luminous (and quite scandalous for the period) color plates by Alajalov, and includes such favorites, "Swanee," "Strike Up the Band," "Do it Again," "Sweet and Low Down," Fascinating Rhythm," "I Got Rhythm," "The Man I Love," and many other favorites. Also included are Gershwin's original piano solos for each song. The volume additionally features a lovely image of Gershwin playing piano by Maurice Goldberg together with a close-up of the composer's hands (courtesy of Steinway and Sons).
