The text of the stock certificate is in French, and the left edge is scalloped. Engraved by Wiesener (Paris, France.) The border of the stock certificate features roundel portraits of famous Virginian statesmen George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, and William Henry Harrison, along with vignettes representing American agriculture and industry. Bearing a Paris revenue stamp at upper right. A former collector's purchase information from 1993 Frankfurt is pencil-inscribed verso. Expected wear including a few scuffs, else near fine. 12.75" x 9.75." Accompanied by a handsome color engraving depicting the Paris Bourse, matted to a completed size of 10" x 8.5."

The purpose of this stock company is outlined in Article 2 of its statute, which states, translated: "The society has the aim of bringing from Europe to the two Americas emigrants to lands of which it is or will become owner, and especially to colonize those lands owned in Virginia, selling them for retail." The company had two directors: Dutot, a French emigration agent, and Hartmann, a German businessman. Together, the pair worked to sell land in Virginia to European immigrants. Dutot operated from Paris and Hartmann was headquartered in the United States. Companies such as this often offered immigration packages, which included all expenses from ship passage to resettlement. The company's fortunes were inextricably tied up with the Civil War, as most of the company lands were located in Confederate Virginia.
