Six Bank/Treasury Certificates From the State of Alabama & CSA, ca. 1840-1864

A group of six individual certificates, the majority of which come from the Bank of the State of Alabama, ca. 1840-1864. Included are certificates of deposit, transfer, and receipt, as well as an uncut stock issued by the Confederate States of America. All featuring the signatures of various bank and treasury personnel. Exhibits varying degrees of toning, soiling, cancellation punctures, and uneven margins throughout. A very good collection overall. Please see below and accompanying images for additional information on contents.

The lot includes, in chronological order:

1.) Pair of two certificates of deposit from the Montgomery branch of the Bank of the State of Alabama, dated January 11 and February 5, 1840 from two separate accounts. The first, numbered 412, is made out for two thousand one hundred dollars while the second, numbered 457, is made out for a sum of two hundred and fifty dollars. 3.75" x 8".

2.) Receipt from the Bank of the State of Alabama for a total of $56.98, dated July 8, 1840, Tuscaloosa. 4" x 7.75".

3.) An uncut sheet featuring two transfer certificates from the Selma Insurance and Trust Company, dated May 19 and June 1, 1859. Numbered 27 and 28 respectively, the first shows the transfer of twenty shares amounting to the sum of two thousand dollars, while the other shows fifty shares with a sum of four thousand dollars. 7.5" x 10".

4.) Stock certificate from the Treasurer of the State of Alabama for the sum of eighty dollars plus interest, issued March 1, 1861. 2.25" x 4.25".

5.) An uncut stock certificate issued by the Confederate States of America on March 1, 1864 promising to pay the bearer the sum of one thousand dollars with an interest rate of six percent per annum. Numbered 2336 and made redeemable on July 1, 1894. 10" x 16.5".

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.

For your convenience, we have provided some recommended shippers.
