First Lady Nancy Reagan's Personally Owned Silver Flatware Service...From Her Mother! Used By Ron and Family
Tableware
A fine relic from the Ronald Reagan White House: a personally-owned sterling silver table service from the estate of Nancy Reagan, given to the First Lady by her mother. This elegant set of sterling silver flatware was created by Dominick & Hoff, New York, and is monogramed with the initials "EDL" for Nancy Reagan's mother Edith Luckett Davis. Crafted in the "Broad Antique" pattern and dating from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century, this nearly-comprehensive service includes: 12 large table spoons, 12 luncheon spoons, 12 soup spoons, 10 teaspoons, six iced-tea spoons, eight coffee spoons, 11 dinner forks, 12 lunch forks, 11 pastry forks, 11 hors d'oeuvre forks, 12 dinner knives with steel blades, 12 lunch knives with steel blades, 13 butter spreaders, one serving spoon, one jelly slice server, and one pickle fork.

The set totals an impressive 148oz. of weighable sterling silver and, except for the knives which bear the work "Brilliant" on each blade but no other hallmark, each piece meticulously is marked with the Dominick & Hoff hallmark and "Sterling."

This lovely set is housed within a hinged wood silverware case with drawer, lined in anti-tarnish fabric and bearing a (blank) brass plaque on the lid. The case measures 18" wide x 12" deep x 7.25" high. The silverware exhibits light scratching and wear consistent with use, while the case bears a few dings, moderate scratches and other age-related signs of use. Ex: Christies, "The Private Collection of President and Mrs. Reagan", 2016, and directly from the estate of Edith Davis.

Edith Luckett Davis (1888-1987) was a noted film and stage actress from the 1900s-1920s who starred with leading men such as George M. Cohan, Spencer Tracy and Walter Huston. Like her mother, Nancy Davis would have a career in acting, meeting her future husband Ronald Reagan in Hollywood in 1949.
