Edward VII & Alexandra 1902 Coronation Archive 22 Tickets
Archive
King Edward VII (1841-1910) and Queen Alexandra (1844-1925). A collection of 22 tickets to the coronation of Edward VII and his wife, Alexandra, as king and queen of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions at Westminster Abbey, London, on August 9, 1902. Originally scheduled for June 26th of that year, the ceremony had been postponed with very short notice, as Edward had become seriously ill with appendicitis, which required emergency surgery to save his life. The coronation had been meticulously planned to reflect the influence and culture of the British Empire, then at the height of its power, while maintaining the religious aspect of the occasion.

The cards vary in color and most are distinguished by borders of royal purple, blue, red/blue, green or brown. Admission to the following sections are represented: Gallery Z - Annexe to Royal Box; South Transept; North Transept; Choir Stalls; Vestibule; and Nave South - Ground Floor Tier. Each measures approximately 7.375" x 4.875", with a map of the route to Westminster Abbey at verso. All tickets are numbered and embossed with the seal of the Earl Marshal. The names of invited guests are completed in manuscript and are surely worthy of further research! Varied signs of expected wear including folds, creases, foxing, soiling, and discoloration. Overall, in very good to near fine condition.
