Civil War. Autograph Letter Signed, "Tho D Eckersen", 4pp bifolium, 7.5" x 9.75", New Durham, New Jersey, November 30, 1864. To Conrad Gross and Company. Expected mailing folds and creases. One-inch closed tear at bottom left recto. Minor ink show-through. Toning, soiling, and scattered foxing. In very good plus condition.

Civil War soldier Thomas Eckersen writes to fellow soldiers, in part:

"...Things are well at present...hope these few lines will find you all the same...I expected a letter from you long ago and began to think you had all deserted or got in some scrape...it cost so much to live and keep our heads above water...nothing new of importance that I can think of just now but the Draft as you mentioned about and that wheel turns every 4 weeks...we have Simon Swartwout here from Milwaukee Wisconsin he has served 3 years & 4 months in the army and Invalid Corp having been condemned for a heavy cold he took while laying in the rifle pits before Vicksburg and transferred to the Invalids you must recollect him...he is a thorough union solder and likes nothing better than to shoot rebels and would stay in the army till the war was over if he was healthy..."

Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
