1pp ALS on blue-lined cream paper signed by petitioner "Anto. de Jesus Vigil" and his solicitor "Josephus M. Sesser", with no docket but dates in the 1880s. In very good to near fine condition, with expected paper folds. Right edge is slightly toned and with isolated loss, measuring 8" x 8.75".

 

Petition is addressed "To the Agent of the Apache de Jocarrilas Tribe, Cimarron, N.M." and reads:

 

"The petition of Antonio de Jesus Vigil humbly prayeth that he greatly suffered from the depredation of the Apache Indians as appears In the accompanying Declaration [not present in this lot] and wishes to recover through the Agency of tribe by their Agent His property or the value thereof…"

 

A unique letter in the words of petitioner Antonio de Jesus Vigil, concerning the increasing "depredation" of Apache Indians in New Mexico.
