Manuscript document, two pages, front and verso, 7.5" x 12.25", Hermitage, September 21, 1808, in unknown hand. Some minor losses at margins and some ink erosion, usual folds, light toning. Good condition.

An account of the partnership of Jackson & Hutchings. Andrew Jackson and John Hutchings established a store at Clover Bottom in 1804. The account concerns transactions by the partnership from July 25, 1803 to November 23, 1804 with Dr. William Ward. The partners purchased a variety of goods from Dr. Ward including "ribbon", "cotton", "rope", "buttons", "needles", a "tea kettle", a "brass ink stand", "flannel", "Tobacco", "Brown Sugar", a "Ladies Hat", "a Screw auger", "thread", "Trunk", and other articles in high demand in the trans-Appalachian west.

John Hutchings (d. 1817) was Andrew Jackson's onetime business partner who co-owned a cotton farm in the Alabama Territory as well as a cotton gin, distillery, and several mercantile stores in Tennessee. Hutchings had willed that Andrew Jackson be the guardian of his son in the event of his death. After he died in 1817, Jackson gained a new, 11-year-old ward and namesake, Andrew Jackson Hutchings, whom he raised as his own son just as he did with with Andrew Jackson, Jr.
