Al Capone Fingerprint Card Distributed to Law Enforcement Agencies to Track Capone! PSA Type I Photograph
Photograph

Type I photograph of official fingerprint card of Alphonse "Al" Capone, taken by the Miami, Florida Police Department on May 8, 1930. The card records Capone's fingerprints in full detail, listing his age (30), height (5'11"), weight (250 lbs.), hair color (black), and eye color (green). The impressions were taken by Officer J.O. Barker and include Capone's personal signature, boldly inscribed "Alphonse Capone" at the bottom. At the time, fingerprint photographs like this were produced in multiple copies and distributed to other law enforcement agencies across the country, helping to identify and track Capone as he traveled. Accompanied by a full LOA from PSA, designating the rare crime relic a Type I photograph. The photograph displays sharp clarity, with all biometric details, fingerprint patterns, and annotations crisply visible. Light handling and expected age toning are present, but the overall condition remains excellent, with the verso clean and unmarked. Measures 8" x 7 7/8".

By 1930, Capone had risen to national infamy as the most powerful gangster in Chicago, controlling bootlegging, gambling, and vice operations during Prohibition. His wealth and ruthlessness made him both feared and untouchable by many law enforcement efforts. However, his travels to Florida often drew police attention. On May 8, 1930, Capone was arrested in Miami on charges of perjury, accused of lying under oath about his residency status during legal proceedings related to his tax and liquor cases. Though the charge did not result in a major conviction, the arrest demonstrated law enforcement's growing determination to bring Capone down by any legal means available. Within a year, federal prosecutors led by U.S. Attorney George E.Q. Johnson, succeeded in convicting Capone for income tax evasion in 1931, sentencing him to 11 years in prison.
