"A letter from my dear, handsome boy today makes me very, very happy. I trust this letter will find you feeling well, also your dear mother. Dear, you are getting quite a literary air about your writing, you exhibit a decided poetical taste, without any knowledge of it on your part which makes it all the more pleasing. You certainly saved yourself several good beatings by not letting your friends know just when your birthday was. Splendid that you have accomplished all you have at 15. Tell dear little Jessie that I am greatly pleased to learn that his arm is better, and to keep up the treatment, and to exercise it as much as possible. I hope your future home will be in Atlanta, then I could have my dear boy come down and stay a week or so with me whenever he got a little time off. I hove so many scientific problems I want you to get thoroughly familiar with. I have just had gas put in my laboratory, I have so much I want my precious boy Floyd to do. I am glad the 'people of Chipley' like my work, my ambition for my dear boy Floyd is to do much better work than I have been able to do. Dear, how I wish you were near enough to have you once every week. I want to see all that fine creative mind God has so generously given you expand and develop. You are now laying such a splendid foundation for it; every time I go out collecting I think of and wish I had you with me, and when I am identifying them also, which is just as important as collecting them. Dear, your picture is doing missionary work almost every day, some poor sufferer looks it and takes courage after I tell them about you. Without a single exception every person who sees the picture remarks, on what an intelligent, handsome boy you re. Yes I tell them the picture odes not flatter you one bit that you are just as intelligent and just as handsome as the picture shows. My patients are increasing and they are doing well. With so much love and good wishes for my precious boy 'Floyd.'" Carver adds a short postscript at the top of the first page: "P.S. Dear, brining your teacher or any of your friends you wish."

Later in life, Anderson became a computer specialist for IBM (Obituary, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Sept. 4, 2005).
