2 Vols., Extracts from John Wesley's Journals: "The First American Edition" (1795) & Bound Assembled Pamphlets, 1740s-1780s
Books
Two volumes containing extracts of the travel journals kept by John Wesley (1703-1791), the founder of the Methodist movement, ca. 1749-1795. Wesley was instrumental in founding Methodism, a religious revival which took place during the First Great Awakening (1730s-1740s). Wesley had helped codify, legitimize, and proselytize Methodism after experiencing evangelical conversion. These volumes cover Wesley's life through 1740, describing activities of the Oxford Holy Club in the early 1730s; his mission to Georgia in 1735; his Aldersgate conversion in May 1738; and his first field preaching in April 1739.
