The memoir includes an exciting description of the so-called "Miracle on Ice," the men's Olympic ice hockey medal round match-up between the heavily favored Soviet team, and the scrappy American team, played in Lake Placid, New York on February 22, 1980. The U.S. team defeated the Soviet team in a shocking upset 4 to 3, with U.S. game-winning shots made by #25, Bill Schneider; #10, Mark Johnson; and team captain #21, Mike Eruzione. The Americans went on to beat Finland two days later for the gold medal.

The half title page is signed by 19 out of 20 players of the 1980 men's U.S. Olympic ice hockey team. Also included are the signatures of two coaches, Herb Brooks and Craig Patrick.
