John Reznikoff Offers Auction Estimate for Recently Discovered Presidential Assassination Relic for New York Times

John Reznikoff was sought out for his expertise as a major collector and dealer of presidential memorabilia when he was interviewed for a July 2018 New York Times article by Jennifer Schuessler entitled “Jacqueline Kennedy’s Notes for Dallas Are Found, Starting a Quiet Tug of War.”

Reznikoff was asked to give an auction estimate for Jackie’s hand-inscribed packing list for her trip to Texas in November 1963. The notes on White House stationery contained an eerie reference to the “Pink & Navy Chanel Suit” and came with an unbroken chain of custody from Providencia Paredes, Jackie’s personal assistant.

When assigning his $75,000 auction estimate, Reznikoff considered several variables, including the author, date, provenance, and current market trends, as well as the symbolism and popular appeal of such an item. Reznikoff is quoted as saying: “It’s a really sexy document… It has everything: her poise, her planning, her status as a fashion icon and, of course, the dark side.”

A four-page packing list, written by Mrs. Kennedy before the 1963 trip to Texas, surfaced recently. It shows her schedule, along with carefully planned outfits for each stop.
