Happy Birthday, John F. Kennedy!

JOHN & JACKIE KENNEDY FAMILY AUCTION NOW OPEN -- LIVE BIDDING BEGINS JUNE 10, 2020 / 10:30 AM EST

Our Collecting Camelot: John & Jackie Kennedy Family Auction includes two lots of especial interest.

Lot 48 is a ticket to JFK’s 44th birthday dinner and Democratic National Committee fundraising event held at the National Guard Armory in Washington, D.C. on May 27, 1961.

Our Outstanding Manuscripts, Relics, & Rare Books from the Forbes Collection Part III & Kerouac Estate Part IV Auction (Auction Opens June 3rd - Live Bidding Begins June 24th, 10:30 AM EST) includes an unusual invitation to the same 45th birthday party. Dinner invitees paid $1,000 a plate to partake of crabmeat, chicken broth, beef medallions, assorted vegetables, and birthday cake. President Kennedy spent so much time schmoozing with his dinner guests that he only had time to scarf down some off-menu items: beer and cream of asparagus soup!

Lot 60 is a pristine dinner menu from JFK’s exclusive 45th birthday celebration held at the Four Seasons Restaurant on May 19, 1962.  Later that night, President Kennedy attended a birthday party/Democratic fundraising event held at Madison Square Garden, where approximately 15,000 people witnessed Marilyn Monroe's breathless rendition of "Happy Birthday, Mr. President." The blonde bombshell (and rumored presidential lover) was clad in a nude-colored creation so tight she had to be sewn into it.

John Reznikoff, president of University Archives, celebrates JFK’s 103rd birthday and talks about upcoming auction items related to JFK’s birthdays in the White House.
