Young Frank Sinatra Filming on Brooklyn Bridge, Plus Mature, Cobb, Kazan & More! 60+ Candid Vintage Photographs
Archive
A collection of 28 original photographs depicting notable film actors on location in areas of New York and Connecticut, ca. 1947-48. Ranging in size from 2.5" x 3.5" to 8" x 10". Subjects pictured include Frank Sinatra, Victor Mature, Lee J. Cobb, Arthur Kennedy, Dana Andrews, and Elia Kazan. Exhibits varying degrees of light toning, creasing at corners, and general age toning throughout. The majority feature evident edge curling, not materially affecting images. Together with an additional 37 modern prints [ca. 1970s-80s], all of which are duplicates of their original 2.5" x 3.5" counterparts. A very good collection overall, possibly unique!

Provenance: These fascinating images have been attributed to one Joseph L. Sasso (1916-2007) of Massachusetts, a theatre manager whose name is docketed on at least two of the original photographs, and are likely unpublished. The lot is in turn accompanied by a number of related photographs depicting various extended and direct members of the Sasso family.

Highlights include:

- (7) images of Frank Sinatra during a break from singing "The Brooklyn Bridge" for the film "It Happened in Brooklyn" (1947), dated July 13, 1946. Pictured throughout are various members of the cast and crew, with docketing present to two of the seven examples.

- (5) images of Victor Mature while filming "Cry of the City" (1948), dated March 1948. Docketing on verso refers to the film by a different name, "The Law and Martin Rome", which directly relates to the story's main antagonist.

- (10) images taken during the filming of "Boomerang!" (1947) showing multiple views of the cast and crew, including director Elia Kazan and actors Lee Cobb, Arthur Kennedy, and Dana Andrews, ca. 1946.

- A sepia-toned 4" x 5" photograph of a man in a long coat and hat standing next to 1940s Chrysler, dated December 15, 1946. Subject is identified on verso as being Joseph L. Sasso posing with the "detective's car used in car chase" of the 1947 film "The Unsuspected".
