Yoko Ono Signed Agreement as President of Bag Productions, Inc.
DS
A typed document signed "Yoko Ono Lennon" as the President of Bag Productions. 1p, 8.5" x 13.5", November 6, 1975, New York, NY. This general release document comes just two months after an official termination of contract between Bag Productions and Consolidated Fine Arts (CFA), in which the latter originally agreed to distribute a series of lithographs produced by John Lennon. Exhibits general wear at edges, with areas of uneven toning, creasing, and light tearing present throughout. A small section of archival tape can be found on bottom verso where a small tear was repaired. A good example overall- boldly signed!

For more information on the original agreement reached between CFA. and Bag Productions, please see lot 294 of this auction.

The document reads in part:

"Bag Productions, Inc… for and in consideration of the sum of One Dollar ($1.) and other good and valuable consideration… to be hand paid by Consolidated Fine Arts, Ltd the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged…

…except as provided in an Agreement dated September 11, 1975, by and between Consolidated Fine Arts, Ltd and Bag Productions, Inc insofar as said Agreement relates to Bag Productions right to participate in certain disputes set forth in paragraph 8 and 9 thereof.

…On the 6th day of November 1975 before me personally came Yoko Ono Lennon… being by me duly sworn, did dispose and say that she resides at No. 1 West 72nd Street, New York, New York, that she is the President of Bag Productions, Inc., the corporation described in, and which executed, the foregoing instrument;…".

Yoko Ono (b. 1933) is a Japanese multimedia artist, singer, songwriter, and peace activist. After moving from Tokyo to New York in 1952, she became involved with New York City's downtown artists scene in the early 1960s. It was during this time where she met future husband John Lennon of The Beatles, who she married in 1969. The couple later used their honeymoon as a stage for public protests against the Vietnam War with what they called a bed-in. Ono and Lennon remained married until he was assassinated outside of the couple's apartment building on December 8, 1980.

Bag Productions was founded in the late 1960s by Lennon and Ono, and went on to produce the former's solo album "Imagine" (1971), in addition to several of their joint projects. The name derived from the term "bagism", coined by the couple to satirize ideas of prejudice and stereotyping. The production company is further referenced in the Beatles' song "Come Together", where Lennon sings "He bag production" in the third verse.
