Woodrow Wilson TLS "Bermuda seems....the most ideal play-ground"
TLS

A typed letter signed by Woodrow Wilson as President of Princeton University. 1p of a bifolium, measuring 6" x 8", Princeton, dated December 14, 1909. Signed "Woodrow Wilson" and addressed to Glenn R. Guernsey. Typed on Princeton University, President's Room letterhead, Wilson writes to express his regrets for being unable to write an article for the Bermuda Magazine due to prior engagements. The letter has flattened mail folds with a few small separations starting at the folds. Light toning and soiling throughout. Boldly signed.

In part:
"I am sorry to say that my engagements render it impossible that I should give myself the pleasure of writing an article for the Bermuda Magazine, but I can assure you that it would be very agreeable to me to express my great admiration for Bermuda in any way that I might have the opportunity to express it. Bermuda seems to me not only the most ideal play-ground in the world, but also a place of so many of the simpler, more natural and enjoyable social opportunities, that one's mind is stimulated there while one's body is refreshed…"

In early 1890, Wilson secured a job as the Chair of Jurisprudence and Political Economy at Princeton University. Twelve years later, Wilson was promoted to President of Princeton University, a position he held for eight years before deciding to pursue a political career. Wilson submitted his resignation in October 1910, having been selected as the Democratic candidate for the upcoming New Jersey gubernatorial election. He soundly defeated his Republican rival, Vivian Lewis, and served as Governor of New Jersey from January 1911 to March 1913.
