A 1p document signed by 28th U.S. President Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924), as "Woodrow Wilson" at lower right, matted and displayed below a large black and white high-quality print depicting Wilson at top. The document was issued from Washington, D.C. on May 13, 1914. Also co-signed by U.S. Postmaster General Albert S. Burleson (1863-1937), as "A.S. Burleson" at lower center. An embossed metallic foil seal inscribed "Post Office Department / United States of America" is located at the lower left. Expected wear including isolated surface wrinkles. Scattered foxing and grime located towards the left. Else near fine. Not examined out of the mat. The sight size of the document is 15.375" x 11.5" while the overall size of the mat including the portrait is 23.875" x 18" x .25." The mat is slightly unevenly trimmed in certain areas but is ready for framing.

President Wilson appointed one "Amos Nichols … Postmaster at Searsport, in the County of Waldo, State of Maine …" Amos Nichols was probably related to the Nichols family of Searsport, a small coastal community located in central Maine approximately 27 miles slightly southwest of Bangor. Searsport is celebrated as a historic seafaring hub, and the Nichols family were well-known mariners and sea captains.

Amos Nichols held the position of Postmaster of Searsport between his Wilson appointment retroactively dating from April 24, 1914, to February 1919, when Congressional records indicate that he was replaced by one Alice C. Havener.

Woodrow Wilson served as president between March 1913 to March 1921. Albert S. Burleson served as U.S. Postmaster General during the entirety of the Wilson administration.
