Description:

Harrison William 1773 - 1841 William H. Harrisonhistoric letter to Gov. of Ohio: "...The President would nominate me in a day or two to the Command of the Army ..."
Autograph Letter Signed "W. H. Harrison", dated April 13, 1828. Two pages front and back, 8'' x 10". Negligible toning on front and minor invisible mended splits. Tiny border visible from being tipped into the Farwell collection (provenance below) darkly penned and much better than usually encountered. Written about a month before the end of his term in the Senate to Allen Trimble Governor of Ohio. Accompanied by period engraving.

An historic letter in which Harrison writes that according to members of Congress,"...The President would nominate me in a day or two to the Command of the Army ... I have determined to accept it would it be offered to me ..." Harrison's main focus in the letter turns to finding a suitable replacement for his Senate Chair. His friends in Congress also sought to have him become the Vice Presidential Nominee with John Quincy Adams. Both spots never materialized and instead he became the First Minister to Columbia. In that role he became embroiled in a rebuke of Simon Bolivar and was soon recalled by Jackson. A career soldier, Harrison decline the post of Secretary of War under Monroe in 1817.

This letter is exceptional in content and appearance and has among the boldest signatures of Harrison that can exist.
