William Bradford Signed Assault & Battery Court Document

BRADFORD, William. Autograph Document Signed, “William Bradford / Atty Genl”, 1p, 7.5" x 12.75", Bedford County, July Sessions 1791. Docketing to verso. Light toning, mostly isolated to folds, scattered spots of discoloration, uneven left edge, a few tiny areas of paper loss not affecting legibility, else in near fine condition with dark text and a bold signature.

Bradford's court document reads, in full, “The grand inquest for the body of the County of Bedford aforesaid upon their oaths do present that John Faith late of the County aforesaid yeoman, Abraham Amorine late of the County aforesaid yeoman, Andrew Wolford late of the County aforesaid yeoman, Frederick Wolford late of the County aforesaid yeoman and Margaret Snyder late of the County aforesaid Spinster the tenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred & ninety one, at the County aforesaid, And within the Jurisdiction of this Court, with force and arms &c. in and upon one Esther Lampe in the peace of God and this Commonwealth then and there being did make an assault and her the said Esther then and there did beat wound and eveilly treat &c. and other harms to the said Esther then and there did to the great damage of the said Esther and against the peace and dignity of this Commonweath."

William Bradford (1755-1795) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After graduating from the College of New Jersey (now called Princeton) in 1772, he studied law with Edward Shippen. Bradford fought in the Revolutionary War, serving as a major of brigade to General Roberdeau, and later was in command of a company in Colonel Hampton's regiment of regular troops. After this, he was appointed deputy muster master-general, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, and served for two years before his heath required him to resign. Bradford then returned to his studies, and was admitted to the bar in 1779. In 1780, he was appointed Attorney General of Pennsylvania. Four years later, he got married. A judge of the state Supreme Court in 1791, he served until 1792, when President Washington appointed him United States Attorney General.

We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.
