Whitey Bulger, Convicted Murderer & Organized Crime Boss in Boston, Signs a Photograph of the Screenwriter of "Escape from Alcatraz" and His Apartment Manager Josh Bond


Photograph Signed "James Whitey Bulger 1428 AZ " on verso with lengthy Autograph Note on verso. Color, 6" x 4". Photograph of "Escape from Alcatraz" screenwriter Richard Tuggle and Bulger's apartment manager Josh Bond. Bulger served at Alcatraz from 1959-1962; his Alcatraz prison number was 1428. Fine condition.


In full, "On left Tuttle (sic, Tuggle) who wrote the screen play 'Escape From Alcatraz' Clint Eastwood played 'Frankie Morris'. I enjoyed the movie, fairly accurate. Josh Bond Mgr. of Apt. House Catherine and I 'The Gaskos' lived in apt. 303. Josh lived in apt. 304 - 1st door on his left was 303 304 on the right. FBI Had Josh call us and tell us some one broke into our locker in the garage - the rest is History." Whitey and girlfriend Catherine were known as the Gaskos, Charlie and Carol Gasko. Josh Bond helped the FBI come up with a plan. He called the couple to say their basement storage locker had been broken in to. When Bulger went down to check, 40 agents were waiting.


On June 11, 1962, Inmates Frank Morris, and brothers John and Clarence Anglin escaped from Alcatraz. They are officially listed as missing and presumably drowned.
