Description:

War of 1812

Broadside on laid paper, 8" x 13.25". Dated "September 30, 1811". Edgewear to left and right edges, toning, occasional scattered stain, and expected folds.

An important broadside from the era of the War of 1812 described a Court Martial for a trial was ordered for Lieut. Cummin and Adjutant Dunscomb based on the following three charges:

"First - For unofficer-like and improper conduct, in disobeying my orders, on the parade of the thirteenth June inst. In refusing to furnish the Adjutant a file of men from the platoon you commanded.

Second - For unofficer-like and improper conduct, in endeavoring to resist that order by force, and thus actually and seriously injuring the reputation, discipline and harmony of the regiment under my command.

Third - For unofficer-like and improper conduct, in ordering your men to charge bayonets on Corporal Floyd Smith, (who on that day acted as Sergeant Major - the Sergeant Major being employed in the band0 who was in the performance of his duty by carrying my orders

The Court duly considered the said charges, the evidence and defense and honorably acquitted Lieut. Cummin; he is therefore, by general orders, restored to his command, and is to be respected and obeyed accordingly"

… The charges against Adjutant Dunscomb were found to be in some degree informal, and on this ground the Court threw out four of them, upon which the Judge Advocate considered himself under the necessity of abandoning the prosecution …"

A very handsome example from the War of 1812 would present well framed.
